THE ALL INDIA COMPETITIONS IN MUSIC & DANCE
These were started in 1961, thanks to the vision of late Sri.V.K. Dhage and
Mrs.Tehminabai Dhage,to spotlight talent and encourage young and amateur
artistes in the representative classical North and South Indian Styles of Music
and Dance and to promote national integration on the cultural plane.
These competitions are sponsored by the Y.M.C.A., Hyderabad and conducted
by Navya Nataka Samiti.
Sri. Ch.V.P Murthy Raju, then MLA and later minister for Endowments, Andhra
Pradesh donated the 5 Rolling Trophies, to be awarded to the first prize winners
in the Senior sections. These were named after the late Niranjan Shaw, who as
the secretary of the Hyderabad YMCA, did pioneering work for the spread of fine
arts when these were looked down upon in the Nizam's State.
The first Competitions were conducted in 1961.Since then, over 15,000 participants
from various parts of India took part in these competitions, so far, even from far of
places like Delhi, Khairagarh, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Bhilai, Raipur,
Bangalore, Goa, Mandya, Mysore, Chennai, Coimbatore, Trivandrum,etc., not to
mention several places from with in Andhra Pradesh. Everyyear about 400 young
artistes participate in the following disciplines.
